Blog Assignment 3

Blog Assignment #4
RIP: Remix Manifesto

I think the Remix Manifesto was made because the director of the film wanted to get across the message that copyright is going way to far. His point of view was very straight forward; that he didn’t agree with copyright policies. I do agree with his point of view because it is quit pointless to sue somebody that makes art that people enjoy.
The film maker was a little bias in the documentary but I think that only makes the film better because he was trying to persuade the viewers to agree with him which is not wrong. It is okay to have bias sometimes as long as it doesn’t go over the top. They didn’t really give the other side a chance it seemed and didn’t really interview them further so I couldn’t really get the other side’s point of view.
My thoughts on copyright are that they seem to be going over board with it. I think it is anyone’s business to create art from what ever they wanted and how. To take a film and download parts of it into another are okay in my opinion you are trying to make art your own. If someone were to take my work and alter it or change it would be okay with me because not everyone thinks the same so it would be different to how I saw it and how they saw it.
I thought the film was okay because of the point of view copyright issue. It was a good argument but it wasn’t set up properly. I didn’t really like watching the film because I dislike documentaries.

Blog Assignment #3 Citizen Kane
In my opinion Citizen Cane was a very long and tedious. It was a waste of a media class because it had very little meaning. Yes the man was one of the richest people in the world... Who cares? There are many people in the world like him including, Oprah Winfrey, Donald Trumph etc. Many people say this is one of the best movies they have ever seen but really it was very meaningless. The ending was the worst (spoiler alert), really a sled. Yes very pointless because who in the heck was paying attention to what he was playing with as a kid? The ending in some peoples eyes meant that he had a bad childhood and missed out on his early life. Well if I was dying I wouldn’t be uttering my last word being a toy I had when I was eight. Then with the death of his former wife and son. There wasn’t any detail in what had happen or how he felt about that. The movies didn’t even show a flashback of how he was taking it. Most of the emotion in that movie came from his second wife which was the only character that showed an ounce of it. Many of the camera angles were well done though. I like how it was a black and white film and it had that antique style to it. I also enjoyed how the movie was played in flashbacks. It had you thinking about what was happening. But other then those two things mentioned I did not enjoy this film because of the acting, characters and storyline.

Media Assignment 2

Firework

The video I chose for this analysis is Katy Perry’s Firework. Overall in my opinion this was a very good video. This video is great for teens to watch because they can relate to it in real life scenarios. There are not many creeds and values because the video in it’s own way exploits them and creates new ones. For example when the curvy girl at the party watches everyone swim and there are skinny girls everywhere. Towards the end of the video the girl finally gets the nerve to join everybody in the pool and takes her clothes off and jumps in. To me that shows she doesn’t care what everybody thinks and basically she loves herself. Stereotypes in this video don’t really exist because again she is going the opposite way and trying to make being different a good thing. Overall I think everyone should watch this video and learn from it.

Media Assignment #1

I believe that media is very important in my life because if we didn't have media then we wouldn't have any information about things that happen around the world. When natural disasters hit some people would have any idea it happened if there wasn't any radio, computer, or t.v.

The three types of media that is important to me are t.v, music, and books. They are the three I enjoy the most because after a long day I can sit down and relax and either watch, listen, or be entertained by a good story.
I think modern culture is interesting because you never really know if it can be true or not. I love the technology that they have come with today. They are great ways to communicate fast and are not very hard to use. I do not like how some elements of popular culture are used to exploit people's lives or they overexpose something, for example Tiger Woods. The many events in his life that should have been private have been leaked into the media. I use media for many things like communicating with family and friends, catching up on the news, or research for school..

For question four I chose the last point. Movies are one of my favorites because they make you think 'Oh, what if this ever happened to me?' or 'What would I do in his/her situation?' My favorite genre of all his horror Scary movies give you that little kick of adrenaline and you feel like your there with the actors. One of my favorite horror movies would be Halloween (1978). It may be corny now but when I first saw that movie I was only seven and it scared me to death and I loved it. I loved the fact of being scared.

Another type of media that is important to me is music. I couldn't get through the day without it. It doesn't even have to be a certain type, I love it all. If I had to choose one album it would be Jack Johnson's Between Dreams album. It is a really amazing album because it relaxes you so fast. Books would be my last one that i would care about the most. its hard to describe my favorite type of book because I like many. My favorite book though would have to be Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte. To many people it would seem like a boring book but I like the storyline and the twists in the story.  Now a days I think people have a love hate relationship because you never really expect what they will come up with.
